Bob Dotson

Robert Charles "Bob" Dotson (born October 3, 1946) is an American broadcast journalist employed by NBC News.[1] Dotson is a national correspondent on NBC New's top-rated "Today" show.

Biography

Dotson was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Kansas University, receiving a degree in journalism and political science in 1968, and in 1969 obtained a Master of Science degree in television and film from Syracuse University.[2]

Dotson's first job in broadcasting was as Director of Special Projects at WKY-TV in Oklahoma City between 1969 and 1975. In 1975 he moved to NBC News, working with Cleveland-based WKYC-TV, before leaving after two years to open a new NBC News bureau in Dallas. He moved to NBC News' Atlanta bureau in 1979.[2]

His main work has been on American Story with Bob Dotson, a news report feature used in the Today Show. He has also hosted the travel series Bob Dotson's America, and has written two books.[3]

Awards

During his career, Dotson has received more than 100 awards, including four national Emmys (and eight nominations), the top journalism awards from both DuPont-Columbia and the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation, numerous National Headliner Awards and "the highest honor in the field of photojournalism," the Sprague Memorial Citation from the National Press Photographers Association. He received an Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association for "Best Network News Writing" in 1999.[2]
